Job Purpose

This role is based in the controls design team who work on numerous varied Automotive Powertrain projects where nearly always the designs are bespoke one offs.  This can range from simple modifications to existing machines to complete assembly cells for a variety of different automotive customers, sites and production lines.
This role will work with specialized software for equipment such as camera system, DMC scanners, nut running systems, laser marking systems and robotic systems.

Working Conditions

Based at our customer site in Dagenham, this role will be required to travel frequently to UK based customer sites which may involve overnight stays. The job holder is required to be flexible with working patterns according to customer demand and this will involve attending site outside normal working hours. Overtime will be applicable to this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Liaison with mechanical design to understand the design concept.
  • Liaison with project engineering to appreciate the customer requirements.
  • Interpret standard design documents (controls philosophy, timing diagram, project specifications) to allow software design.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical/pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to design bespoke software for machine and system control.
  • Fault finding within integrated systems during build and test. - Solo or team-based commissioning at Ford Dagenham - UK and foreign travel for up to 4 weeks at a time.
  • Solo or team-based commissioning, in the UK or abroad.
  • Preparation and execution of sign-off documentation.
  • Liaising with project engineers and customers.
  • Other tasks as required which may fall outside the core responsibilities of the role.

Technical/Functional Competencies                   Behavioural Competencies

Educated to HNC or equivalent level in Electrical Engineering. Experience of Siemens, Group Schneider, Rockwell and other PLC systems. Experience of programming and interfacing to auxiliary equipment including: HMI’s, Robots, Leak Test Panels, Nutrunning Systems (Atlas Copco), Camera Systems (E.g. Cognex), Printers, Laser Markers, RFID systems, etc. Good understanding of mechanisms Knowledge of CAD packages
